Bridgewater Academy Lions

 The Bridgewater Academy Lions Club’s 24th Indoor Antiques-Crafts-Flea Market will return in March to the large gymnasium of the Bridgewater Middle School (the former B/R Regional High School).  It will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 (storm date March 31).  The school is located at 166 Mt. Prospect Street, near the corner of Center Street.  This venue has space for 56 vendors plus local Lions tables and is handicap accessible from the large main parking area.

This Antiques-Crafts-Flea Market will feature exhibitors from all over eastern Massachusetts, plus some from New Hampshire and Rhode Island as well.  The wide range of items offered for sale will include collectible glass and china, vintage linens and house wares, jewelry of all kinds including vintage, silver, fashion and hand-crafted jewelry.  Also coins and stamps, needlework, local history books, collectible dolls, home-sewn doll clothes, toys, handcrafted pens and accessories, candles, home-crafted furniture and other wood items, fashion accessories, new and used household items, and more.

The lovely Polka-Dot-the-Clown will be on hand in the Lions front lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  to do face-painting, temporary tattoos, and balloon-twisting.  Other Lions tables will include baked goods, this & that, books, snack bar, commemorative Bridgewater bells by Fenton, Rada cutlery and Lions membership information.  The Bridgewater Academy Lions also will have a drop-off at the book table for any prescription eye glasses and hearing aids that you no longer need.  The Lions District 33S Eyemobile will be in the parking area to provide free screenings (March 24 only). 

This Lions fundraising event has a modest admission fee of $1.00 per person.  Children under 12 will be admitted free if with an adult.  Net proceeds from the admission fee, vendor rents, and Bridgewater Academy Lions tables will benefit local scholarships, community programs and other Lions charities.  For general information call (508) 697-9443.  For vendor info call (508) 697-3765 or email bwateracadlions@verizon.net.

As of the District 33S Mid-Winer Conference held in January, the Bridgewater Academy Lions Club (BALC) ranks #4 of the Top 5 Fundraising clubs in District 33S and #1 in the District for Fundraising per member!

The BALC annual auction for the Mass Lions Eye Research Fund raised over $10,000 this past year.  In the past 19 years of the auction, we have raised a total of $189,000.  Our participation in the annual Festival of Lights Lions Weekend and our annual Flea Market in March are two additional major fundraisers.

The BALC collect Pennies for Sight, eye glasses, hearing aids, deposit cans and bottles, aluminum can tabs, box tops for education and unwanted keys.  All proceeds from these collections go to Lions and local charities.  If you have anything to donate, please call 508-697-3660.

The February dinner meeting of the Bridgewater Academy Lions will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Bridgewater Senior Center (officially known as the Cole-Yeaton Senior Center), 10 Wally Krueger Way in Bridgewater.  Social time is 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to club business, we will have a guest speaker.  The Plymouth County Deputy Sheriff Lisa Budge Johnson will be talking to us about Identity Theft and How to Prevent It.

The Bridgewater Academy Lions held a Blood Drive on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Conant Community Health Center.

The Red Cross had scheduled 45 appointments and two walk-ins came, bringing the total to 47 pints of blood collected.  Thank you to those 47 donors who took time out of their busy day to do something in the new year to help others.

The next drive will be on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Conant Community Health Center, 5 Wally Krueger Way, Bridgewater, MA from 2:oo to 7:00 p.m.
